The OriginTrail protocol is part of one of the flagship innovation experiments. In consortium-type projects like SmartAgriHubs and DEMETER), Trace Labs is closely collaborating with other partners on work packages to bring innovations to the market. In the other two cases, the initiative is funding the development of a specific solution as a stand-alone project managed by Trace Labs. As an open-source blockchain-based technology paving the way to large-scale adoption, the OriginTrail protocol is attracting interest from researchers, public institutions, and government decision-makers on an international level.
We are currently active in four European consortia and, in this blog post, you will have a complete overview of each one. Reactor scripts allow developers to run their own custom scripts in response to common Platform events such as when an action is created.
Trace Labs is one of the top 5% teams, as almost 300 applicants applied and only 16 were selected for funding in this batch. The application will house the Reactor script that will send action data to the OriginTrail API whenever a specific kind of action is created. This script is available from the reactor-origintrail GitHub repository and is written in such a way that it can be easily and simply added to any EVRYTHNG project with only minimal configuration.
Other decentralized exchanges have similar limits; The most prominent Decentralized Exchange, EtherDelta, has had to limit the influence of custom tokens. With this use case, Trace Labs will help KZ Šaleška dolina – an agricultural cooperative from Slovenia – connect the dots in its value chain by tracking events from farm to shelf.
We are also delighted to announce that we were invited by OriginTrail to join the Trace Alliance. The Trace Alliance is a non-profit association initiated by OriginTrail which connects businesses, the public sector, academics and technology companies in the field of blockchain research and the creation of practical solutions primarily for supply chains. The collaborative effort of the alliance aims to resolve a variety of challenges and come up with solutions for a wide range of use cases through increased supply chain integrity, data governance, transparency and trust. It also allows supply chain data to be shared in a resilient and decentralized manner—using OriginTrail’s unique incentivized replication system. EVRYTHNG’s Blockchain Integration Hub integrates features of multiple/different decentralized ledger technologies (DLTs).
OriginTrail is a solution, insofar as it provides a platform for IT providers to develop blockchain supported data in supply chains. This will enable actors in the supply chain to trace products beyond the “one step down, one step up” principle, meaning the step just before the product was received and the step where it was sent.
GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together. On the business side, OriginTrail’s core development company - Trace Labs - announced a partnership with one of the leading Oracle implementation partners in the Middle East - AppsPro which is an Oracle Platinum Partner. And we had our partners from BSI (British Standards Institution) visiting our office. ICO Radar is a source of live information in upcoming, active and past ICOs. We provide coin presale date, rating, live price, chart and contribute to transparent cryptocurrency market.
Copies of data are stored on the OriginTrail Decentralised Network which is connected to the Ethereum blockchain. The app now includes a Verify on the Blockchain button, which leads the user to the OriginTrail Network Explorer.
To unlock this potential OriginTrail protocol was designed to tackle the prime challenges limiting the exchange and integrity of data in product supply chains. With supply chain data getting increasingly fragmented as well as the poor scalability and cost-effectiveness of current decentralized solutions, the need for OriginTrail becomes evident. OriginTrail is a unique protocol enabling IT providers in the supply chain industry quick implementation of blockchain supported data sharing in multi-organizational environments. It is a missing puzzle that helps build transparency beyond the “one step down, one step up” principle, increase the integrity of data and save money for stakeholders in supply chains. The first version of OriginTrail is currently in use in the food industry with the upcoming open source version being applicable to any product supply chain.
As work is already underway, with our team members attending project-related events and workshops all over Europe, we are often seeing that the OriginTrail protocol addresses the exact issues stakeholders from all over the continent are highlighting. These include interoperability of data, trust in data, and visibility of entire supply chains. With its value propositions, OriginTrail is getting a lot of attention from various stakeholders. This gives us additional confidence that we are on the right path with development.

As a result, supply chain data about each individual apparel item can be shared using the GS1 EPCIS format and replicated across the decentralized network for better, more resilient data exchange between actors of the supply chain. ICO PROJECT was alive at 22 June, 2018 Ico Start date was on 15 January, 2018, and the first post on bitcoin forum we see is on 2 October, 2017 with Subject [ANN][TGE] OriginTrail (TRAC) - First Purpose-Built Protocol for Supply Chains. Subject started by OriginTrail who now has 35 and the status Copper Member on BT website. OriginTrail is a first purpose-built protocol for supply chains based on blockchain. For our more technically inclined readers, this replication feature is now also supported in our official OriginTrail open source connector.
OriginTrail and its ERC20 token TRAC are covered in our newest supply chain article.
In this particular case, we will use a script that sends action data to the OriginTrail API for writing to the blockchain, then encode details about the resulting transaction in a new certification action. Remember, one of the guiding principles of the OriginTrail project is decentralization. In the spirit of decentralization, hopefully there are myriad node setups supporting the OriginTrail Decentralized Network (ODN) (a.k.a. decentralization). In addition, all data is protected by blockchain technology, which ensures it can no longer be changed once it is entered into the system.
Perutnina Ptuj, the largest poultry producer in Southeastern Europe, just launched a new nOS-based provenance app powered by the OriginTrail protocol! Consumers can now verify data about Perutnina Ptuj products on the blockchain. Trace Labs is part of the program with a project for an agricultural cooperative for automating and streamlining core processes and incentivizing sustainable farmers by using a public blockchain with built-in transparency and integrity. Trace Labs is part of the initiative with the Food Data Market project, an inclusive data marketplace for sustainable food production, equitable distribution of gains, and digital sovereignty of citizens and farmers.
This massive project assembles 140 digital innovation hubs, nine regional clusters and 28 flagship innovation experiments. It aims to bridge public-private funding by mobilizing additional funding (EUR 30 million). The project’s goal is to introduce 80 new digital solutions to the market (more info here).
Decentralized, blockchain-supported platform ensures trust, transparency, and security. It helps companies exchange relevant data seamlessly and in a secure way to build accountability, protect their brands and save money.
OriginTrail Improvement Proposals
With solutions and services on top of the protocol, such as the Network Operating System (nOS), more ready-made solutions are becoming available to use in various contexts. The projects will leverage the power of the OriginTrail Decentralised Network (ODN) to deliver an unparalleled level of supply chain transparency and more efficient data exchanges amongst farmers and food companies.
Thanks to the success of this pilot application on EVRYTHNG’s managed nodes of OriginTrail test network, both teams are now looking forward to larger deployments of supply chain data sharing on the main OriginTrail Decentralized Network (ODN). Trace Labs’ solutions abstract complexity, making setting up decentralized infrastructure easy, without the need for users to have any technical knowledge or handle cryptocurrencies. Blockchain technology has huge potential to decentralize trust in supply chains and bring enormous benefits.
This provides another layer of proof for the events in the supply chain that the actions represent, which can be used to build partner and consumer trust in use-cases such as product provenance and authenticity. Now that the integration is set up, all actions that are created in the scope of the chosen project with the appropriate custom fields will trigger the Reactor script and have their information recorded in the blockchain via OriginTrail. The integration makes use of EVRYTHNG actions to send and receive data from the Reactor script (and OriginTrail, by extension). An action of one kind will start the script, and another will be the output once the transaction has been added to the blockchain.
